Step Up 4 Autism is a community-based organization registered in Kenya, dedicated to improving the lives of children on the autism spectrum and individuals with co-occurring developmental and physical disabilities. We recognize that autism is not a standalone condition, but often exists alongside challenges such as cerebral palsy, speech and communication disorders, and other developmental needs. Our approach is therefore ,inclusive, and family-centered.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects many children and families across Kenya. It is often characterized by challenges in social interaction, behavior, speech, and nonverbal communication. Due to limited awareness, individuals with autism are frequently misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or excluded from society. This highlights the urgent need for increased awareness, acceptance, and access to support services.
Founded on the principles of equity and dignity, Step Up 4 Autism works directly within communities to provide therapy support, caregiver training, and advocacy. We empower parents—especially mothers and caregivers—with practical skills, knowledge, and emotional support to better care for their children and navigate daily challenges.
Through collaboration with educators, policymakers, and stakeholders, we advocate for inclusive education systems and disability-responsive policies. Our efforts have contributed to increased awareness and the development of more inclusive learning environments.
Our flagship initiative, Mr & Ms Autism Kenya, promotes confidence, visibility, and leadership among persons with autism. In addition, our ambassadors champion climate action through tree planting and environmental awareness, reinforcing the link between inclusion and sustainability.
